Saigyosakura-tanuki yama

The origin of the float is associated with the wooden raccoon dog-mask of worn by salt vendor Shioya Jibei and it was originally called Tanukiyama or the float of a raccoon dog. Then people named it Saigyosakura-tanukiyama since Saigyo Hoshi used a doll of a raccoon dog which had a dialog with a spirit of cherry tree (sakura). The raccoon on the roof of dog crowning the float is regarded as the leader and guardian of the festival and he also defends the a keeper of the fine weather on the festival day. This float heads a procession every year after the story. The karakuri describes a spirit inside a flower talk with Saigyo Hoshi.
